-> Christopher: I´ve bought that booster for 500 CZK (about 25 CAD). It is new, but there´s been some rusty brake cylinder mounted on it, so the top is a little bit rusty too.

Also there is missing the vacual valve.

And it is booster for older model, so one part have to be replaced before mounting the booster to newer ("M") model.

If you´d like, I can replace that part and try to get somewhere that missing valve.

If you wouldn´t, never mind - I´d put it to my spares

The black hubcaps have two holes bigger than the other two - ie you can fix the wheel to the hub with two nuts, then put the hubcap on and then put the other two nuts on, fixing the hubcap as well... the nut caps are there just for aesthetics/protection.

Thanks Bukaj for the offer - I don't think I'll need it now, though if the price is right, having a spare is never a bad thing. Also, I know someone here who says he needs one for his 135. I can ask him if he's still after one.

Yes I did - it was the vacuum hose. The hose was newer, BUT at some point it had been crushed in the middle (maybe a rock - dented the protective plate). Fixed - nice and cheap. Thank you for the suggestions, help and ideas - if I had known it was so easy it would have been done some time ago!



One other question - maybe not a good one - with the black plastic hubcaps for the factory steel wheels - do they fix under the bolts (the bolts hold them on) or over the bolts (the black plastic bolt caps hold them on). Sorry, I'm used to the usual 'dog dish style caps'.

So I´ve bought the brake booster for older model of 105/120 - if you´ll need, I can rebuild it to fit to your car and then ship it...

Bukaj - makes good sense - easy to test at home, the only problem is finding a hose long enough - but I'm going to try in the next week (so busy with work, but vacation starts on Friday).



I have a set of 'Apollo' alloy wheels from the UK - these were standard in silver, black or gold on Rapids sold here. We never really had those black plastic center caps - many other options were used. Here is a pic of the definitely non-Skoda wheel covers the car came with from the Canadian dealership back in 1986. I still have them.

The best way to test, if the hose is good or not is to disconnect it from the booster (beware of the plastic back flow valve - sometimes it´s hard to pull the old hose off, so carefully - it´s better to cut open the hose and then shorten it a little bit than damage the valve ) and with engine running test its suction function with thumb.

Or you can test directly the booster by connecting any hose of right diameter (not any, it have to be self supporting - but it can be ordinary 1/2" garden hose ;-) ) to it and the second end of the hose to the engine intake inlet, then start the engine and press the brake pedal and you´ll know...



The seat material you´ve mentioned is one of the less durable one (is very sensitive to sunlight, so the top of rear seats is mostly damaged) and as it was the most luxurious (GL - Grand de Luxe ) version, most of the Skodas with this type of interior were exported "to the West" and although they are not so rare in Czech, only few of them have seats in good condition...

So it is almost unreal to get that upholstery in good condition, let alone brand new...

If I was in Europe, I'd be happy with a used part, but since shipping for old or new is the same, I may as well pay a bit more for new. That Skodacanada e-mail is good - or ctrevelyan@telus.net is better.



I'm not 100% sure about the part - my local mechanic (who happens to be Czech) suspects it - the problem is bringing it to a garage and then having it sit for a month waiting for a part. I'm definitely going to check out that hose though this week to make sure - the car is very original (had original 1986 Barum tires when I bought it - and when I changed the plugs shortly after buying it I discovered the old plugs were made in the GDR/East Germany!), so I think the hose is original too.



One thing I'd love to find is some of that terrible black w/white stripe seat material. It's still ok, but it's getting old.



This was a weekend/fun car only, but I use it even less now that I have two small kids...but it's my last Skoda and I'm not quite ready to sell. One more pic at a Mercedes show...

-> Christopher: That link is to car scrapyard near to my city, so thats used part. I can buy it there (price is about 10USD), but I haven't any. They are selling operational parts, but new is new. I've posted that link to make sure of which part we are talking about.

I haven't many experiences with buying these parts, therefore I leave that to my friends Bukaj and Dragon. I know them and they are reliable people.

And, by the way - don´t you, or anybody of your Canadian Škoda community, need any other spare parts? When we will ship more parts in one box, it would be more effective and economical, wouldn´t it be?



P.S.: I´ve got one more question - are you sure, that the wrong part is the booster? More probably it would be the suction hose leadinguder the car from the (intake piping of the) engine to the brake booster. If your Skoda has an original one, sure it will be rotten and chapped.

First try this possibility

-> Christopher: The part dna69 posted a link to is a used one... shipping to canada would be around 40-50 USD. If that is OK for you, we (me, Bukaj, dna69 and maybe other people) can start asking resellers and such if they have a new unit in stock - but price for the unit itself is again going to be around 50 USD.



But realistically, there isn't much to fear from a used unit - there are only few parts that can fail and most of them are still relatively easy to get (I have most in stock in fact). I have a used unit in my basement that we pulled from a scrap car few months ago that you can have if we can't source a new one for you.



BTW, are you using your GLS as a daily driver, or just as a weekend car?

Bukaj: I'd prefer the whole booster, but parts would be good too (buy a whole one AND rebuild the old one). I'm not *too worried* about shipping cost. My 120 has given me years of cheap motoring - I would be many thousands poorer if it was a Benz or a SAAB.

Thanks very much - that would be good too. I still don't mind shipping the whole unit from Czech Rep (or elsewhere in Europe). Yes it will be expensive, but that's the cost of owning an orphan car in Canada. As you can see though, it's a nice example, so I want to keep her going!

-> Christopher: I have a friend who's flying to Montreal in the middle of january, she's willing to bring some smaller parts like the membrane and such with her and mail them to you when she gets to canada. Not sure about complete servo unit, it's rather bulky and heavy and the capacity of her luggage is obviously limited.

I know about one new brake booster in one shop, but it is for older model (1981).

There are some differences between new and old model of booster, the maim and the only you have to solve is the "button" (pos. 26 at the scheme).

Or I can ask some reseller, who could have a new type.

The last possibility is to refurbish your old booster with new parts - needed pos. (if damaged) - 2, 3, 8, 12, 20, 22, 23, (24, 25). Part pos. 3 you can refurbish, if it is scratched, by honing and polishing.

So, let us know, what way would you prefer

And for your easier selection - estimative price of new booster would be about 45-65 USD, parts needed for refurbishing your old one about 20 USD...

And I don´t know the taxes for shipping...

Já jsem v nouzi brzd / Servo s 86 120GLS. V nové nebo velmi dobrém stavu. Pokud někdo ví, že jednoho k prodeji, nebo čestný dílů chlap, dejte mi prosím vědět.



Já jsem úplně v Britské Kolumbii v Kanadě. Mám většinu částí, které potřebuji, ale můj obvyklý části člověk nemůže dostat jeden, a oni nemají od roku 1989 prodala Škoda díly zde!
