-> Christopher: one advice: if you are going to split the engine apart from the gearbox, remember to completely remove the crankshaft position sensor from the gearbox. I didn't remove it and damaged it by the flywheel.
-> Christopher: Yes, the sensor is the crankshaft position sensor for the fuel injection unit, which is a rather special part, since only the GLi models had it, and they were almost exclusively made for export and very few of them were made - that's why they are so rare. But should you need to replace the whole gearbox, drilling/machining the hole for the sensor should be reasonably easy.
The plate I mentoined is accessible with gearbox in the car, but I'd suggest you lift the back at least a bit, otherwise it's quite cramped down there :) I've highlighted it on the attached picture.

The sensor is "round sensor" (I´m not sure if it´s proper name of the part) for the motor management unit (I don´t know, what FI means, but I think, we both mean the same thing
)
And what -> dragon_cb_cz: wrote about the springs and balls, they are under the "oval shaped" steel plate ( skoda-katalog.eu/ekatalog -105-120/.../2632-vicko-pr uzin - pos. 19).
The plate is situated at the right side of gearbox and is fastened by two M6 screws (10 mm hexagonal head).

Is the sensor for the FI computer?
Maybe I'll take the advice here and just source the parts.
Please excuse my ignorance, but is the side cover plate you mention removeable with the gearbox in place, or do you have to pull the gearbox first? I've never had a Skoda gearbox problem before, so I've never looked into it!
Thanks,
Chris

-> Christopher: If it won't stay in gear, there's a small oval-shaped cover plate on the side of the gearbox, under it there are two springs and balls (see here: skoda-katalog.eu/ekatalog
-105-120/.../53-zasouvaci-
ustroji-(5q) ) that hold the gear selection forks in place. Check them, it's likely that one of the springs is broken.
Regarding the broken machined pieces, depeneds on how many there were and you can never know how critical they were before you try
As said before, the internal parts of 5-speed gearboxes are all the same except for the differential (differs between the 105/120 style and 130/135/136 style rear axle obviously) and the constant gear.
Some of them are easy to find, some are harder. Shipping the whole gearbox would probably cost a lot, since it's fairly heavy, so I'd suggest trying to find what parts exactly are broken.

-> Christopher: You could use standard Rapid gearbox, just would have to drill o hole for sensor. But I have no clue how the sensor is attached. If to engine or where.
Here's my other one...
Hi,
Thanks for the responses.
Any ratio is ok.
My 135 transmission will not stay in 5th/reverse; it pops out immediately. I also found some broken machined pieces when I drained the fluid; so something broke. It can still be fixed I'm sure, but I'd like to have an extra spare transmission; even a 130 as I have two 135GLi's to keep alive (and 2 120GLSs). I plan on rebuilding the broken one too.
Thanks,
Chris

As -> dragon_cb_cz: and -> Nwkt: wrote - there are some differences between 135 GLi/RiC and 130/135/136 gearboxes. What is wrong with your transmission? If it is the "constant gear", the same is used in Skoda 125L gearbox, so you can search only for matched pair constant gear skoda-katalog.eu/ekatalog -105-120/.../2449-soukoli- zabehane-(prevod-4-22)
From 125L gearbox you can use almost all inner parts, excluding differential case assembly.
To find original 135 GLi/RiC gearbox is very difficult in Czech (and Slovak) Republic, because all these cars were made for export, so here it is more rare, than in GB and other "Western Countries"

-> Christopher: To explain further what -> Nwkt: means by 3.9 vs 4.22 - that's the "constant gear" ratio.
-> Christopher: It will fit your car but 130 transmission doesn't have hole for sensor and it is 3,9 not 4,22 like GLi/RiC
I thought all 130 or Rapid gearboxes would fit into my 135; I was looking for a Rapid/130 gearbox; anything that will fit the 130 rear suspension.
Will a 130 Rapid 5-speed gearbox fit in my 135?
By no.2 plan it to rebuild, but I'd like to do both.
Thanks,
Chris

-> Nwkt: What is different for GLi?
-> Christopher: This is a big problem even in Czech republic. GLi transmissions are very rare, but you can buy a 5-speeg transmission from Skoda 120-125 and use parts from it to you old gearbox.
Hi,
I hope this is ok to post this here.
I am looking to buy a good working 130 5-speed transmission for an 89 135GLi that I own. The problem is, I'm in Canada so it would have to be shipped. If anyone is able to help, please contact me.
Thank you,
Christopher
