The first model chosen to comply with the US-83 Federal is Skoda 135i.To accelerate the development,cooperation has been establised with the American company Bendix Electronics which manufactures an electronically controlled,single-point fuel injection system for Renault R9(Alliance) and Jeep 2.4 l cars destined for the US market.Components of the system have been employed on the Skoda 135i car,with just a few minor modifications,the most important one concerned with the electronic control unit optimizing the car engine operation.A single-point,electronical ly controlled fuel injection/ignition system manufactured by Bendix is employed to blend the fuel mixture in an optimized manner to ignite it ,which features a feedback from a lambda probe fitted into the exhaust pipe.The additional combustion of exhaust fumes takes place in a catalytic converter situated upstream of the exhaust silencer.The system guarantees that the provisions of the most stringent US-83 Federal regulation are met for at least 80.000 kilometres.
